Interview with Alan Jade

Jen: This weekend we welcome Alan Jade to Book Talk. Alan, will you please share a short bio with us?
Alan: I have been single now for several years, enjoying bachelorhood. I am a simple man, my earliest years were as an Air Force brat travelling from base to base. I gained a fascination for tinkering watching my dad fix stuff around the house.

Jen: Tell us about “The Handyman” and where it's available.
Alan: The Handyman started as a dare from a roommate who saw me on an adult dating site. My first story was received very well, so I did 2 more on the same theme. When those were received well with additional requests, I thought I would make a book out of the stories.

Jen: At what age did you discover writing and when were you first published? Tell us your call story.
Alan: I have written the occasional poem for a lover, small story for a child or grandchild, but The Handyman is my first venture into publishing anything. It was actually almost an accident, but a happy one.

Jen: Describe your writing in three words.
Alan: Tense, Descriptive, fulfilling

Jen: Do you have a writing routine?
Alan: Not really. The bug strikes often: at lunch, dinner, or even on the road. I just pull over and write down enough notes to be able to get the story idea later.

Jen: What’s the most challenging aspect of writing? Easiest?
Alan: Challenging: Trusting the story to find its own stop point.
Easiest: Trusting the story to unfold.

Jen: What’s the most rewarding aspect?
Alan: For me, it is the comments from readers that tell me they love something, or hate it. If I have engendered a response, then I did my job as story-teller.

Jen: Is there a genre that you’d like to write? Is there a genre you’ll probably stay away from and why?
Alan: Honestly, I had not thought about it, but perhaps because I love women, an epic love story is attractive. As far as staying away from any, not on anyone's life. Life is far too precious, and enjoyable to shy away from new experiences - like it or not. More likely, I find new experiences worth wallowing every day!

Jen: What five authors or people, from the past or present, have been important to you as an author? What question or comment have you always wanted to say to them?
Alan: Robert Heinlein, Shakespere, Plato, Solomon (from the Bible), and Confucious

The question: So glad you never tried to make it easier.

Jen: What did you do to celebrate your first book?
Alan: Planning a quiet party with my lover.

Jen: What do you do in your free time?
Alan: Practice dreaming and loving. (not necessarily in that order)

Jen: What's next for you?
Alan: Another book, of course!
