Playing For Pizza is the story of Rick Dockery a third string NFL quarterback who in his last game throws three interceptions to lose a game that was in the bag. In this last game, he gets hit so bad that he's in the hospital for a week or so.
Rick has been passed around to many teams throughout the NFL because although he has a good arm, he also fears getting hit... so you can imagine getting hit with his latest concussion makes him wonder about his football career. Of course no other football team would touch him with a ten foot poll at this point, and his agent, Arnie is trying to drop him without damaging too much of his own reputation.
In a last minute effort finds, Arnie finds a team in Italy of all places that would be grateful to have a real NFL quarterback.
Reluctantly Rick goes to Italy, and predictably slowly falls in love with the place. (note: ugh... I want to go to Italy!)
This was a good story, but I felt it was a bit predictable... but some times that's not so bad. If you like Grisham, I'm sure you'll enjoy his latest.
