November Contest

Many thanks to everyone who voted in the October poll and entered the October contest. You can check here to see if you won last month's contest.

Now for November's contest........

Most of our promos include interviews with the authors. We're looking for new questions to ask our guests. So, to enter this month's contest, tell us what question (or questions) you look forward to us asking OR what question would you like us to ask the authors in the future.

Here's a couple of the books that are up for grabs from the winner, who will be chosen on November 30th.

One of my favorite questions you ask in your interviews, is how the author got his or her calling to be an author. The one question I like to ask but isn't really included in many interviews is if the author is the first one in his or her family to be published.

What kind of research did you do for the book?

If your book was made into a movie, which actors would you choose to play the hero and heroine?

How do you pick the character's names?

  3. ArkieRN // November 03, 2008 6:09 AM

One fun question is "What did you do to celebrate the sale of your first book?"

I thank everyone who's giving me new questions to put in future interviews. And forget that you can always ask the authors these questions. :D

  5. CrystalGB // November 03, 2008 8:02 AM

    My questions:

What is the most interesting comment you have received about your books?

Which genre ,that you have written, would you like to try writing?

  6. Ashley // November 03, 2008 8:26 AM

I think a good question to ask is, Which character is their favorite one that they've written?

    Ashley

Do you become attached to your characters and have a hard time letting them go or are you happy that their story is told and you can move on? Is there a genre they haven't tried that they would like to? Is there a genre that they will probably stay away from and why?

I know that some authors go into cave mode. Do you have a specific time, or place that you write? How do you shut out disruptions?

Also, how does your family handle the time that you write? Are they supportive or disruptive?

    Thank you!

Here's some I like to ask:

If they could time travel back for one year, where would they want to time travel back to. With only being able to bring 3 things with them, what would they bring?

    and too:
What five authors/famous people, from the from the past or present, have been important to you as an author, that you would invite to your home for dinner? What question or comment have you always wanted to say to them?

  10. ReadingIsSoMuchFun // November 04, 2008 11:43 PM

Here are some I would like to ask :-)

Most people only dream of becoming a successful writer. Now that you have accomplished that goal is there anything else you dream of doing?

If you could date any male character from any book, who would it be and why?

Do you feel as if the characters live with you as you write? Do they haunt your dreams?

How many hours a day do you spend writing?

I'm loving these questions. Keep them coming... and look for them in future interviews!

  12. Karen H in NC // November 07, 2008 10:23 AM

Sounds like all the great questions have already been asked, but I guess I'll throw in with this: Do you always have a visual in front of you of your inspiration for your hero/heroine?

  13. ddurance // November 07, 2008 8:54 PM

How do you combat writer's block?

    Deidre

  14. bbricke // November 13, 2008 8:46 PM

What advice do you have for others who want to follow in your footsteps?

If you could be the main character in any story who would you be in what story?

If you weren't a writer what would you want to do if you could do anything in the world?

I would love for you to ask the authors out of all the books that they wrote which made the biggest impact in their life?

If they could write one of their books over which one would it be and why?

Which character, out of all the books they wrote, resembles the author the most.

    Michele L.

  16. robynl // November 17, 2008 12:05 PM

I look forward to hearing a bit about the authors' personal lives such as their hobbies if any. Also, I like to know their reaction to getting the call that their first book was accepted and is going to publishing.

  17. Maureen // November 18, 2008 8:23 AM

I would ask where they see themselves five years from now as a writer?

What are three words they would use to describe their newest book?

  18. Patty // November 22, 2008 9:27 AM

My question is where do the characters come from? is it from people in your life? wolfie53 at sbcglobal. net

  19. ScorpJen1121 // November 22, 2008 1:50 PM

how do you come up with and fit in plot twists?

how do you create the world your characters live in?

how do you make our "villians"?

  20. donnas // November 22, 2008 6:31 PM

How do you decide what genre to write in? And what about that genre really calls/appeals to you?

  21. Gina Marie Pettitt // November 23, 2008 5:08 PM

What is your favorite genre to read? Is it the same as one you write or totally different? Why do you think that is?
What authors have given you inspiration?
Do you always like your characters? Which ones don't you like? Was it intentional or a surprise? If you dislike a character do you attempt to rewrite them into a more "likable" persona? Which one surprised you the most?

  22. quiltingreader // November 24, 2008 6:16 AM

What is the one question you always wanted to be asked?

  23. Nancy Bristow // November 24, 2008 3:02 PM

    My questions for authors:

What book are you reading at the moment or the last one read?

Who are some of your favorite authors?

As an author, are you aware of the power of "connection" with readers? (i.e. response to reader emails, questions, comments, contest)

Who do you rely on to give you honest feedback before your book is published?

Do you read the feedback comments at Amazon?

Is your book in print or ebook or both or going to print? (It makes a difference to many readers.)

That should do it for now....Nancy:)

  24. tigger9 // November 24, 2008 5:09 PM

    My question is
What genre would you most like to try to write that you haven't?
    lexeetoste@sbcglobal.net

  25. LJ White // November 24, 2008 9:47 PM

These are great questions. Here's mine.

When writing a new book, what do you use as a starting block? A location, characters and their personalities, a scenario you've always wanted to use or something different?
